Which hair accessories should you choose for your bridal hairstyle?
The big day is coming and the question of your hair is becoming more and more pressing. So many questions about the style that will work best with the wedding dress you have chosen and the accessories you have in mind. First of all, you need to know what your options are. Often, that will depend on the length of your hair. Let's start with short hair, then we will look at mid-length and long hair.
Short hair
Your hair is short, so a chignon is of course out of the question! That said, not having a chignon doesn't mean you can't enjoy yourself when it comes to hair accessories. In fact, the accessory is precisely what will make the difference.
Contrary to what you might think, you have plenty of options. There is a whole range of wedding hair accessories that can be worn in short hair.
If you go for a hair slide trimmed with a flower, or with pearls and crystals, do check carefully that it will stay firmly in place in your hair without slipping, to avoid any worries on the day. Don't hesitate to ask for advice before you buy. The slide can be fixed at the front of the hairstyle, to one side.
You could also choose a fine headband or tiara. It can be worn as a headband, or tilted slightly back, though not too much, so that it sits firmly on your head even when you lean forward! A light headband decorated with feathers and pearls to one side will bring a cheerful touch to your bridal look.
For the most romantic among us, a florist can make a crown of fresh flowers. A crown of artificial flowers or pearls has the advantage of not wilting if the weather turns hot.
Mid-length hair
Your hair is mid-length, but not quite long enough for a chignon. You may want to pin part of it up and work on the back of the hairstyle. In that case, you can choose from several accessories to dress it up.
A tiara or headband is easy to fix in place, especially if your hairdresser holds it with a slide at each end, which is possible with a half-up style. Feather clips or combs can be fixed where the hair is pinned up.
You could also go for a curved comb, which sits on top of the head rather like a tiara (but narrower). Your hair is swept upwards, slightly raised at the front and held by the comb.
Long hair
Hair down, half pinned up or in a chignon: every option is open to you. Let's concentrate on the chignon.
First of all, it is worth deciding with your hairdresser which style of chignon will suit your face best. That matters, because even if you think you have found the chignon of your dreams in a photograph, there is no guarantee it will look as lovely on you as it does on the model. Depending on your face, your hairdresser will probably be able to advise you: a low chignon, a French pleat worn to one side, a high chignon, a sleek chignon with nothing escaping, or a mass of curls.
Once your mind is made up, you can think about accessorising your chignon. Hair pins are the ideal accessory for a chignon: long, wavy pins finished with a decoration. At Princesse d'un Jour you will find a very wide selection of chignon pins, nearly all of which have the advantage of belonging to a complete set. That means you can match your hair pins to your bridal necklace or bracelet for perfect harmony.
Hair pins are often worn in threes or fives, depending on the size of the pin. With a larger design, you may only need one.
